 "I don't know what Reiki is and I don't believe in it".

 

The body has a respiratory system, digestive system, circulatory system, a nervous system, and an energy system as well. We are affected by things all around us down to a cellular level that we don’t outwardly or readily perceive. Science and religion both indirectly acknowledge the existence of this concept yet maintain that it is an “emerging” “abstract” approach to "new" forms of healing. Stain glass windows and paintings depicting saints with halos where the crown chakra is located which is directly associated with divine connectivity, or the Vatican’s use of a pinecone symbolizing the pineal gland which is commonly known as the third eye.

Studies have proven that the human mind, body, cells, and DNA can be affected by magnetism, electricity, EMF’s, RF’s, photonic energy, and other forms of radiation. These sources are all essentially invisible to the human eye, yet their effects can be recorded and experienced. Unfortunately, there is no mainstream scientific equipment or publicly promoted information to help prove a “biofield” exists, but the results can most certainly be experienced and felt in the same way as all these other sources listed above. The practice of reiki is older than Christianity and it has even been discussed in some theological circles that Jesus practiced reiki through Buddhism during the missing years of the Bible. Reiki is in fact, still practiced by at least one major religion.

Our physical world experience is so finite compared to what actually exists that our dominant sensory receptors (eyes, ears, smell, touch, taste.) sometimes trick us into believing this is the extent of our human experience. It would behoove you to remember that humans generally can only hear a range of 20-20k HZ, can only see from violet to red (380-750 nanometers), and the same goes for our other senses. Because we cannot smell what a dog can, does that mean the dog is wrong? Because we can see what the blind cannot, are WE lying? To immediately reject the idea that we have an energy system would be like one frequency believing whole heartedly that it is the only one on the radio. 

 

This energy that can be best described as universal, or God energy, passing through the practitioner to the recipient through their energy circulatory system. Each person’s experience with reiki may vary, most experience a profound feeling of love, peace, and/or relaxation. Reiki is not a religion and therefore does not have a centralized deity or form of worship. The purpose of reiki can only be used for healing and personal growth through meditation.

 

Using reiki for meditation has been life changing for me. It has helped me (alongside other forms of therapy) to resolve ptsd, mental and emotional blocks, reinforce my path to seeking truth and inner peace with the philosophies and guidelines of reiki alone. Not one diet fits all people, this isn’t the perfect source of happiness for everyone, but it would be a big shame to not try something as simple as relaxing because of preconceived notions and prejudices. We are all capable of self-betterment and change, but none of it can happen without willingness or an open mind.
